Default Does the wrapper really impart 60% of the flavor?

I've never smoked the same cigar with a different wrapper before so I don't have a comparison. It's got do be something like 99% of the tobacco in a cigar is the filler though. How is it that such a small amount of tobacco contributes to the bulk of the flavor?

same here, I've pretty much weeded out all the crappy cigars from my small collection and I don't have anything I'm willing to sacrifice for the sake of science.

I can't access the link. Also I was referring to something like the same vitola in a maduro versus natural like the Padron 2000 for example. Forgive me I'm a greenhorn.

Yes, there is a difference in flavor between two cigars with different wrappers that would otherwise be identical. Due to varying filler strengths and wrapper strengths, the amount of these flavor differences or their prominence can vary.

Padron2000's aren't expensive cigars, I suggest you pick up two identical sizes, ideally the corona so you can get some flavor off of it, one natural and one maduro, the next time you are at your B&M. Another good candidate is the Fuente 858 with a natural wrapper (cameroon) and a maduro wrapper.

the LA aurora 1495 is a great example. they have numerous variety of wrappers on the same blend of cigar. every one is extremely different to my tastes.

"Sampler includes five Robusto-sized cigars. One is the traditional La Aurora 1495 blend, and the other four sticks are the same binder and filler as the 1495 with four unique wrappers not available anywhere else: Cameroon, Corojo, Brazilian Maduro and Connecticut.

"How much does a wrapper change the taste of a cigar?"

This age-old question from smokers and connoisseurs is now answered in this unprecedented assortment of La Aurora 1495 Robustos. You have the opportunity to determine how four distinctive wrappers (Connecticut, Cameroon, Brazil and Corojo) affect the same blend. Compare them to each other or to the traditional 1495, wrapped with Ecaudorian Sumatra."

I was about to say La Aurora. They had a "connoisseur" Collection for a while. When I saw it it was a tray with 4 cigars same filler/binder and the wrappers were different for each blend.

Apparently now its 5.

Maybe this link will work, otherwise, just search this forum for "what a difference a wrapper makes" there's some interesting discussion on the topic in that thread already.

To help a little with the what I know and and have learned. It all depends on the cigar .. Some cigars the wrapper is 30% and some it is more and some less.

Some 30%, some less than 30%, some more than 30%. I can absolutely agree with that.

Adam made a very good suggestion. Try a maduro Padron x000 series and a natural.
In some cigars, tne wrapper is 100% responsible for some of the flavors.
Tom is gonna LOVE that statement. :d
