Hey Steve, I have an older X-tend (made in France) and I only use Vector fuel in it without needing an adaptor. I don't know if the fill valve was changed on the newer Maxi jets made in China or not though, but using the Vector fuel will save ya some coin if it works.

I also have an older one that I fill with Vector and one of the adaptors it comes with. Never had a problem with it, great lighter but don't use it too much anymore as I prefer my solder-it torch and mostly just use the Ronson for touch ups to save wear on my X-tend as it is more for "special occasions".
