My parents had a few of these that we used every day. They were eventually replaced by the plastic ones. We repurposed them by taking teh guts out and using the metal trays as water bowls in our rabbit hutch.

I often post the instructions for a similar old tray on "How to Make Ice" for those morons at the office that take the last ice cube.
