I was in the hospital for a week on a couple mega-anti-biotics. Long story on how it got so bad, but my orthopedic said another day and we would have been chancing amputation.

Never thought about that angle from wearing gloves. I had similar story with cellulitis I caught in Portugal. If it weren't for a doctor I was travelling with, my leg (or me) could've been gone.

It never occurred to me to prevent that with gloves in the gym... 25+ years in the gym and I learn something new.

Gloves to me prevent toughening of the hands and development of grip, but I guess that is not as important as preventing sickness…

I throw my vote in with the wrist straps. I have some tendinitis issues and they help immensly.

go with the harbinger or some nike ones, they both have the padding in the spots that take the most pressure and tend to build calloses...

My hands used to have callouses that would stick out 1/2 on inch until I would finally peel them off and leave a nice divot, Moses. An education on what one can (and I did) catch in the gym changed my tune on wearing gloves.

For the record, mine was actually cellulitis both times as well...I just simplify to "staph" because not many people seem to know what cellulitis is.

Moses - I thought you used the Jorge Posada Method of toughening up your hands.

Don't know what is near you but they usually have them at Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, etc... and similar chain stores.
