Weight Lifting Gloves
I started working out at a new gym this week and they have a lot more free weights and machines but they are kinda beat up. I am looking for a pair of workout gloves that I can wear to protect my hands. Can anyone recommend any? Thank you.

Re: Weight Lifting Gloves
I use a set of Harbinger gloves. Fairly affordable and they have done me well thus far. Then again im a novice, but they have been a big help to me and my jacked up hands. Lol

Maybe a little overkill for what you are looking for though Kristin. The straps are nice for doing shoulder shrugs when my hands are exhausted cause I can wrap them around a straight bar and use less grip strength. I have girl hands so...

Not a fan of gloves in the gym, for me that is a "no no". Straps for pull up's is about all I'd recommend...

Re: Weight Lifting Gloves
The reason for me is to protect my hands because the equipment is kinda old and a little rusty because of the pool. They are going to be remodeling soon.

Another vote for the Harbinger gloves here. I like the "Big Grip" ones.
I can't afford open callouses touching the gym equipment after two bouts with Staph the last couple years.

Re: Weight Lifting Gloves
I was in the hospital for a week on a couple mega-anti-biotics. Long story on how it got so bad, but my orthopedic said another day and we would have been chancing amputation.

It never occurred to me to prevent that with gloves in the gym... 25+ years in the gym and I learn something new. Gloves to me prevent toughening of the hands and development of grip, but I guess that is not as important as preventing sickness…

I throw my vote in with the wrist straps. I have some tendinitis issues and they help immensly.

Re: Weight Lifting Gloves
go with the harbinger or some nike ones, they both have the padding in the spots that take the most pressure and tend to build calloses...

Re: Weight Lifting Gloves
I actually prefer my bare hands =). I used to wear gloves, but found that my grip got better and forearms got 'bigger' from not using them. But on the heavier lifts like deadlifts, I use straps.

For the record, mine was actually cellulitis both times as well...I just simplify to "staph" because not many people seem to know what cellulitis is.

Re: Weight Lifting Gloves
I don't remember the brand of glove my wife used when she used to work out at the gym, but they helped her keep her hands in good shape. Now she uses them to unload the truck when she gets to Hana with all her supplies for the week.
Good luck with your choice.
