Default PR Edge Maduro Dyed Wrapper

Why in the heck do they dye wrappers? I swear I will NEVER buy another Edge maduro or any other cigar that stains my fingers.

Rant off...

I have no idea about the dyed wrappers, but I'm with you on never buying another one.

I think one reason is that the wrappers they use are not the prettiest things and probably are not uniform in color and Americans always want something that appears to be perfect. It's the same with apples. Those nice shiny red ones you see at the store are, for the most part, dyed to make them "pretty" to the consumer.

The dyed wrapper also makes it appear as if it is a stronger cigar to the average smoker. I still enjoy the ´92 but I have to admit the quality of RP smokes has gone down the last few years.

There are very few cigar makers that DON'T enhance their maduro wrappers in some way. I've smoked Anejos and a Padron 80th that stained my fingers, and pitch-black cheapo bundles that didn't stain my fingers. Guess it depends on how well they "enhance" the wrappers. The worst I've ever had was an Olde World Reserve maduro. I could rub my fingers together and the residue would flake off like dirt.

I agree with the "dye" being used on the cigars,,,I don't like it one bit but I just can't stop smoking the Edge Maduro,,it tastes good. Forgive me but I must smoke them all.

I don't care if they're dyed or not as long as they taste good

A CAO Maduro stained my fingers and lips once. That cigar didn't even last an inch before I tossed that crap out.

From those reps and tobacco types I've spoken to, the wrappers that are cooked are the ones that normally rub off. Apparently the dyes usually hold pretty well. Just what I've been told, I'd like to see if it were true first hand but the only manufacturer I know that I can walk into his factory quickly doesn't use cooked or dyed leaves.

I would like to inject a note for thought also - "cooking" the leaves to accelerate the fermentation process which naturally produces oily sugary wrappers, manufacturers will also add sugar. So although dye may be added, don't be so quick to judge. Saliva and/or combined with heat can and will cause the sugar/oils to be pulled from the wrapper.

I'm a maduro fan. So no doubt I have had my fair share of dye induced wrappers - I don't get stains. I don't wet, lick or otherwise slobber on my cigars - dry lips I guess.

Anyway - just something for thought.

This topic always freaks me out. I find the dyes/cooking/sugar gross. I want to be smoking tobacco and that is IT!
I find CC's to be the most genuine (no proof), cause they don't have so many different "new" products (ex. RP), no money to invest in additives, seemingly remain truest to the trade and are least uniform in construct and appearance. Anything to expedite curing through additives seems weird.
Although, I try new stuff all the time, this approach is what I want to be smoking, just blended tobacco - nothing cooked, dyed, additives etc. I just try to stay away from additives in my smokes.

(ps. I did relatively enjoy the 1 RP Edge Maduro I smoked but won't again)
