Cell phone spam
My local TV station has an article on their website about spam text messages. According to the article, you can " forward the unwanted text to "SPAM" or 7726. It's free to send texts to that number. It lets your phone company know it is spam. Sometimes it can block or cancel the account, but it can also use that information to filter out spam so someone else doesn't get it."
Has anyone done this? I'm starting to get more and more so will try it, after verifying with AT&T that it is the correct procedure.

Re: Cell phone spam
I looked at AT&T and other sites, and can't find any confirmation of this 7762 method at all, Mark.

me either, but if it is an FCC rule (which I expect it could be), then they won't advertise anything that the government does to make them do more work.

Re: Cell phone spam
Here's a PDF from AT&T's web site about it. I don't think I've ever gotten spam texts, but it looks legit. http://www.wireless.att.com/support_...20Consumer.pdf

Re: Cell phone spam
Ha! About two minutes after reading this post I got a spam text message, crazy. I don't even get them that often, maybe 1-2 a month. I forwarded to ATT and they responded.
First, area51, this is what a spam text message looks like: Then this was ATT's reply: Honestly, I doubt this will do much to stop the spamming but it's interesting nonetheless.

Re: Cell phone spam
I have gotten quite a few of them. If you don't text "stop" some of them will then show up on your bill as subscriptions so you have to read them. I had two for $20.00 bucks and called AT&T and they took them off and then put some kind of block for third party subscriptions. I signed up for the message thing in the earlier post and blocked everything it would let me there too. The funny thing is when I was talking to customer service they never mentioned the mymessage thing and you would think they would try to get folks using it.

I have received two so far of the "free $1,000 BB card". Haven't had one text since a week. If they do it again I shall forward said message to AT&T.
