Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
Yes, I know... many of you hate Gurkha. I've been around long enough to figure that one out.
I picked up a 10 pack of the Crests from C.I. for $40 (with free shipping) and thought at $4/each I probably couldn't go wrong. The MSRP on these things is through the roof... I can't imagine that anyone actually PAYS MSRP on these things but I'm hoping that it say's SOMETHING about the quality of the cigar. A quick search got me a few reviews from '08-'09 but nothing recently. Anyone have any experiences with the Gurkha Crest they'd like to share? Please tell me I didn't blow $40 of my dwindling cigar budget on a 10-pack of dog rockets... Randy |

I paid for one, msrp, probably even more because the shop I just to go to is expensive.

Re: Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
Well I will say this....MSRP on EVERY Gurkha is through the roof, yet CBID sells Titans for $5 (last someone checked) and they still are making a profit. Yet B&M's charge $30-$35 for the Titan.
Quick search shows 5 packs at $11 right now, sure there is 2 days left but there's 8 of them. The only one that can tell you if you wasted the money is you. If they smoke good to you and you like them then who is to tell you it was a waste of money.

Re: Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
I think Gurkha inflates the MSRPs of their cigars to try to give the impression of quality. As Bill said, you can get most for a fraction of MSRP at CBid, so that tells me their MSRPs are a joke.

Thanks for the responses fellas... is it safe to assume then that not many have tried the Crest or maybe it just wasn't memorable enough to remember anything about them?

Re: Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
I haven't had the Crest, but the few Gurkhas I have had haven't been bad. Maybe I just got lucky, IDK. But really, its up to you whether you think they're worth $40 based on how much you like them.

Re: Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
Had one a couple of years ago. (I was an early subscriber to their web site/email and they sent me Crest/Beauty/Titan in a really nice leather 3-finger case.)
My memory blows and I didn't keep notes, but I seem to recall that it fell solidly into the 'not bad' category. Fairly rich flavor, but not spicy. I liked the other two better and didn't see any reason to seek out more Crests, but I certainly didn't find it at all objectionable. |

Re: Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
I have liked most Gurhka's that I have had. The crest is still on my list of sticks to try.
Their MSRP's are a joke, no doubt... but so are a LOT of other manufacturers. |

Re: Experiences with Gurkha Crest?
I can't comment on the crest but I did buy 3 5 packs of different ones last year. I still have about 10 cigars left but I have not been brave enough to try them. I did smoke a few before and they weren't that bad. Just not as good as some other brands in the price range. Bill is right though in that when it comes down to it reviews and such are all just personal opinion. Sure some guys can get the same flavor profiles from the same cigar but other guys get completely different flavors from smoking that very same cigar. Smoke what you like and like what you smoke.
