The Waxingmoon experience
Hey all...
I just received my new Waxingmoon humidor late last week. I was absolutely amazed with the quality of the final product but also had a blast with the process. Ed made is such a great experience from start to finish. I thought I'd share the progress from start to finish with some pictures. To start... here were the scale diagrams I drew up for Ed to go on. You should note that I ended up adding an extra layer of trays from this initial plan. I chose Quilted Maple for the primary wood on my humidor with walnut for a contrasting wood. It took a couple of months for Ed to procure the quilted maple. Once he got it he sent me this picture of the board that was to become my humidor. The board had some knot holes that needed to be repaired and Ed used an epoxy to fill the knots instead of throwing away the knotty wood. He had to bookmatch the board to get the height that I wanted for the humidor. Here's the pictures of the front panel of the board once bookmatched. Here's a picture of the box once it was built. It wasn't a humidor at this point since it hadn't been lined and didn't have a lid. Ed wiped it with mineral spirits to give me an idea of it's finished look. |

Re: The Waxingmoon experience
I had some very specific requests for the bottom section of the humidor. Ed really came up with something special to fit those custom requests. The bead tray is on the right and the two sections are 6.5" and 7.5" to accommodate toro and churchill sizes. The dividers are all removable and moveable.
Note that none of these are my pictures... they are all pictures that Ed took the time to send to me as the building process was underway. I looked forward every week to the new pictures Ed would send me of the progress. It was a TON of fun to watch for myself. Here's a picture Ed sent me of the unfinished humidor built but not yet lacquered. The Lid is absolutely amazing. He said that he had to enter dimensions into his CAD program to get the proper bevel on the lid from the outside to the inside piece. Each of the three sections of the lid had to be seperately beveled so he had to plan it out in advance. Here's pictures of the packaging. Ed has the humidor packaged at the UPS store and it comes packaged to withstand a nuclear blast... It was blast for me to open it though. It was like Christmas morning for me... Re: The Waxingmoon experience
Here was the grand reveal. My wife wanted to document me opening the package because she's basically heard nothing besides humidor talk for four months.
The finished product... finally home where it belongs. |

Re: The Waxingmoon experience
Finally... here is where it is going to sit from here on out. I had Ed build the humidor to the dimensions of the cart. I think it's a medical cart I picked up for cheap at the local university recycling center. It is in great shape and is built to last. It works wonderfully because it has two drawers for miscellaneous cigar "stuff" and a place below for my flavored humidor (mostly for my wife).
This picture is basically useless but you can see how shiny that finish is! A BIG thanks to ED for the awesome humidor... it is an amazing piece of woodwork and he made it a fun process from start to finish. I can't say enough good things about Ed himself as well as his skills as a woodworker. He's an artist and an all around great guy! Randy |
