Henry Clay Brevas Finas Maduro
This 6.5×48 stick features a dark chocolate wrapper with a thick rustic feel, slight tooth with a nice oily sheen, small veins, even firm construction and seams, a double cap and a slightly sweet tobacco aroma. First light reveals a slightly snug draw with minimal smoke output, medium-full body flavors of deep earth, smooth aged tobacco, and a big pepper blast that goes well in to the long deep finish. The first third transitions to a nice smooth slightly musty aged tobacco with a sweetness and hint of pepper, keeping the long oily finish. Draw could be open just a touch to be perfect, but it’s burning well enough. The 2nd third opens up the draw and is now perfect putting off a very nice rich thick smoke. Flavors have completely changed, going to a rich, oily meaty flavor with a deep slightly salty finish that reminds me of eating steak. Burn is very good and the ash is holding for over an inch. Ending at 1:30 the last third went to a very deep ‘sticky’ earth, holding the flavors in the mouth for quite a long time with a big bold body and matching strength, giving me a bit of a rush at the end. draw tightened up just a touch again but it performed flawlessly.
