Arrow Need Help might of made a mistake.

I have alway been the "hey you want a cigar" guy or i would buy one or two from the shop and smoke it the same day.

I'm deployed to Afghanistan, and i have gotten in to cigars with a friend of mine. Its dusty, some times there are leaks when it rains and stuff always falls off the shelves and/ or gets crushed. So purchesed a Herf-a-Dor
LINK (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...CIO3700&cat=10

I figured it would solve most of those problems. Now as i read online its not good for storage.

Any tips on how to make it more storage friendly?

Thanks for the advice..

It's fine for storage in my opinion.Maybe a humidity pack if the cigars are going to be in there more than a couple weeks.
I would be happy to have that for storage.

These are fine for storage while you are deployed. I have a small 2oz bag of Shilala beads in mine. You should have some type of humidification device (beads, water pillow, etc) to ensure they don't "dry out".

If you have any major concerns, PM a brother here (who just currently deployed) by the name of Tobii3 who uses these and larger versions religiously. He can provide you with all the "facts" about these being "battle tested".

Stay safe and thanks for your service!!

No, you did not make a mistake. That traveldor will provide you with decades of good service.

Typically Herfidores aren't used for long term storage due to the costs, but they are fine for it, especially in your situation. They just don't hold many cigars. You can pull the foam sheets out and store the cigars loose (bag the un-cello'ed cigars) and get about an extra 50% in capacity.

Since they seal quite well, don't go crazy on the humidification. If it were short term storage, you probably wouldn't even need humidification in there. Use something that can both absorb and release moisture - HCM beads, Heartfelt beads, Heartfelt humidity sheets or a bovedia pack.

You could also go scrounge a few empty ammo cans and wash them out, those work well for storage too. Just drop the box of cigars in and seal the lid. You won't even need humidification in one of them - one drop of water will last a year.

Also, welcome to CA. If you haven't yet, please post an intro over in the New Inmates section.

And, thanks for your service.

I've had cigars in several of mine for over 6 months with no problems even without humidification. You will need it though. It's a little bit dryer over there.

Welcome to CA and thanks for your service!

I think a travel packet/pillow is the way to go....just set and forget and your sticks should keep for months! From one active service member to another, keep your head down and be safe!

I used to have a 20ct traveldor that was my only storage. Used it for about 2 years before i started really getting into cigars. When I used it I would only smoke about 6x a year, now it's a little more!!!
I honestly haven't noticed a difference in the smoking quality. I just made surre that the humidty was good about once a month if i wasn't smoking for a while.
Good luck, stay safe and Thank you for what you do!!

I think you made an excellent choice. Add some form of humidification for long term storage and you're good to go.

I used to keep my cigars in an ammo can. Right now I have them in a small pelican case with some wet paper towels. I am waiting on some drymistat tubes and beads to keep the humidity up. It is ridiculously dry here and you have to stay ahead of it if you want your sticks to survive.

I use a converted pelican case for my traveldor when out on patrol, similiar in construction. I have the humidity sheets mentioned above and rarely need to add any water to them over a period of months.
