Cuban (Latin) musicians
So being Mr. Whitebread, I need some help expanding my horizons with the above mentioned topic.
From back in the days when I played, I discovered Buena Vista Social Club and Tito Puentes. Love Tito. As a horn player, listened to a lot of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, which has that latin feel. Looking for suggestions for some good "herfin" music to give that "island" feel. mucho gracias, amigos!

Re: Cuban (Latin) musicians
Compay, Celia, Fania All Stars, Eddie Palmieri, Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Ray Barretto, Joe Bataan, Ruben Blades....
I've got a bit of a Puerto Rican bias in my Latin music preferences. |

Yup, love Cubanismo. Also feel very lucky to have got my ass of the couch and seen Tito several times before it was too late. Anyone else catch his guest spot on the Simpsons doing "Senor Burns" ?
If not check it out here, very funny: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9Z4Hl_GqWE ~Vitis |

So of course if I was smart, I would have asked you about this while you were sitting three feet across from me...

Re: Cuban (Latin) musicians
Don't forget the Brazilian influence on latin music such as Sergio Mendez and the organ work of Dave Cortez. There has been some great music from folks of Cuban heritage coming out of Miami such as some of the ballads from Gloria Estefan and the off shoots from the Miami Sound Machine. When I listen to music from the Carribean I tend to listen to calypso and reggae. Just my . Paul
