Default Well, that well's capped

FINALLY. I know this is not over, especially for the beaches and poor freaking animals and
fish and planktonic critters. But danged if they didn't stem that flow.

I'm not getting too excited. I'll consider it capped when it proves to be a long term solution for the problem.

It took over 15 years of planning, design and test programs for Apollo 11 to come to fruition.

By your analogy, 86 days to cap a well is fantastic.

The fact that one has no relationship to the other in any way is a separate issue.

I'm more shocked that no one thought this could happen and to have a viable way to control such a disaster.

Not to mention that this drama is unfolding about 5000 feet down, at many thousands of pounds-per-square-inch of water pressure.

That'll still be a very long time. I'm betting on a few years (if ever) that the coasts/wetlands/gulf returns back to normal.

My impression has been that they had ways in mind, that had worked before (albeit under different conditions), and figured they'd work here too. Only when they actually tried them did they find that, umm...no they didn't work!

A classic case of "no battle plan ever survives first contact with the enemy".
