Thinking of Ink

Ok so I have toyed with the idea of a Tattoo for about a million years.

The concept I have drawn up is representative of my three kids.

I just fired off an info request to a well respected Tattoo parlour here in Calgary.

The image is the 3 zodiacs of my kids in their birth month color with their name and birthdate around it?

Placement will be right arm above t-shirt line

thoughts?

It's nice, but unless you have HUGE biceps the text is going to be quite small and hard to read.

Might be better as a chest piece. More real estate to work with, plus symbolically they'd be "close to your heart." If you shrink it down to fit your bicep, the fine line work in the script will tend to bleed over time and become indistinct.

I'll agree in the sizing issue.
I'll even agree with the over-the-heart/chest suggestion.

But I believe that today's inks won't bleed or fade as easily as you think, Kreth.

Great idea brother. Will have to say that if your tat artist has a fine touch they will be able to do the script in a readable size around the arm. Are they going to be in a ring around your arm or arranged in some other fashion?

Oh, I've got a little of today's inks under my skin. I agree they do hold up much better than the old school stuff. But extreme fine line work is just asking for trouble, IMO. Oh BTW, IANATA, just a collector.

True on the fading issue but its ALWAYS a good idea to use strong sunscreen whenever you go out. Both my wife and I have sleeves and we pretty much live in SPF 85. It definitely helps keep those colors bright and popping over the years.

Maybe hand that off to the tat artist and let them run with it, Shawn?
They'll know what to do with it, so far as how they can do it and the limits of their inks and talent.
I've been tossing the tat idea around for about a year now, only getting serious enough to chase artwork just recently. I'm not in a hurry, it's going to be there a long time. Can't decide where I want it, either.

Just a thought Shawn. Do the script in black and outline the figures in fine line black also. I like Scott's thoughts on letting the tat artist having some input as well.
Size wise, your artist should be able to work that on your arm, but it would also be a cool back piece as well. Just my

The best advice here is to find a good tattoo artist and have them come up with an appropriate design that fits the space with all the elements you want. If they are not willing to draw something for you, find a different artist. In my experience, your design (with the lettering in black) would have to be about 8 inches wide to keep the level of detail and still look decent after 5-10 years. Modern inks fade much less but bleeding issues are dependent upon the skill of your artist and the quality of his equipment not the ink. Take your time and work with your artist and you should be happy with the end result. Good luck.

I originally thought of arranged on my upper should area of my arm but a ring around sounds good too.

Hadn't thought of chest....might do that too.

I am ok with black script and a thing black outline......... I really want the color to be solid and vibrant.

Nope I am not married to any orientation more the individual designs that are representative of my kids

Great idea, but I'll suggest something alternate to that. Maybe find something that symbolizes your children to you, rather than the zodiac signs and the names/dates. Nothing wrong with that, but maybe something else might be easier if you prefer to get something on your upper arm.

I have backpiece that symbolizes my 3 kids for me. It's the snakes intertwined (I'm a reptile guy) Here's mine:

I like your idea, but maybe talk to your artist. If he's a good artist, he'll be able to come up with a design that incorporates all 3 of the zodiac signs into one, colors too. After that, maybe a banner below the image or symbol would work to put the script. Just a thought. That way it'd all be one image that would fit on your bicep and still symbolize all of your children.
