Curious, anyone investing heavily in the down market? If so, what stocks are looking like a good buy right now in your opinion, (i.e. GE)........

I'm not an individual stock kinda guy, but rather a market fund kinda guy. I've been buying inflation linked bonds and different market-area funds. I'm a dollar cost average person when it gets right down to it.

I keep very active and do pretty well, sadly not a massive amount of $$ to work with but once I get a real job I should have some cash to work with. |

****s Sporting Goods, at the beginning of the year one of the money mags said this was one of the top stocks to look into. I am working there until I get a job in history and I was thinking about buying into the company. Right now its at 14 bucks. My manager said he bought it five years ago at 10 bucks and it shot up to 60 and he said he expects it to rebound and make its way up near there.

In Short:
I have been making good solid leaps when BWLD (buffalo wild wings) announces their quarterly earnings or shortly after. I saw 18% gain in just 3 days once. Most recently (last week) i made 28 percent when the price rose from the low 20's to the low 30's. Gotta make the right moves at the right time....

Re: Investing
My margin account has taken a beating though thankfully no margin calls for me. In a down market, I try to short, but it's really difficult to borrow the stock now. There's really not much you can go long on except gold. If you are considering to start investing, this definately is not the time though. And the ways that you can make money, options especially, are probably well out the league of a beginniner both experience and cash wise.

Re: Investing
There are some individual stocks that I'm "gambling" on right now, but overall, I don't think individuals without significant assets can "invest" in individual stocks without taking on excess amounts of risk. Invest in funds, but buy stocks if you see a unique buying opportunity...or have insider info.

Re: Investing
I do have some good news. I've been eyeing some product that only accepts Euro's. I made a purchase two days ago when the currency was very much in our favor; 275 euro to 340.80 US AND that includes the 3% exchange fee on top of it all so I broke .8000/Euro!

Oh well, so much for speculating.... I haven't shorted Spiders (SPY) in a while but their inverted ETF (SH) looks interesting. I might go that route instead of shorting. I was a bit nervous this morning because I was buying on margin. |
