Opus X "Lost City" Robusto
So tonite is HUGE night for me... Tomorrow I will ask a special someone the biggest question of her life, so tonite I thought I would smoke a special cigar.
Bart from Sabor Havana bombed me with this special smoke the day he got these boxes from Carlito Fuente himself, and I knew immediately when I would smoke it. I am still smoking and will post a review when I am finished, but so far... EPIC Stock Photo for posterity, pic to come: |

Re: Opus X "Lost City" Robusto
Ok, cigar is done, review time....
As many of you know, I am an Opus X af******do, love them with all my heart! Due to that love, I thought it would be a perfect smoke for my big pre-big night smoke. I have been working almost a month of 15 hour days and was ready to relax The cigar looked spectacular, as Opus' almost always do, and the band was classic Fuente opulence. The prelight aroma was sweet, extremely sweet. The prelight draw was very tight, so I gave it one poke with my Boom Cigar poker (see last picture) and it became perfect. Where? I smoked this in my favorite place, on my nightly patio, the air was cool and the rain was coming down, making for great ambiance. The moist air made the cigar glisten with dark oily-ness. With? I drank one of my favorites, a glass of Macallan 15 year "Fine Oak" single malt that was given to me by a close friend and offline BOTL. First 1/3? The cigar started off classic aged Opus, that rich cherry/raisin flavor that I adore. There was a good bit of strength right away, but very well rounded strength that comes from age (much like the 1998 Opus that Tanith gifted me). There was some pepper too, a nice white pepper flavor that wasn't overpowering but VERY Dominican in base. Second 1/3? The cigar burned extremely straight, and the pepper flavor went away as well as most of the fruit, leaving a very balanced flavor with serious aged tobacco taste (I, for one, buy into the Fuente story that this was harvested in 2004). The draw remained constance and the volume of smoke increased. It got a bit hot in points but not a big negative really. Last 1/3? The fruit came back, and that just made it that much better. I truly love the unique flavors of an Opus, and this was classic. I burned this thing all the way to the nub nub nub and loved every second of it. Overall? This cigar did not disappoint. It was a $30 MSRP stick that really was worth every penny of it, not that I could afford to smoke it every day, but WOW. It paired exceptionally well with the smokey dry flavors of the scotch, and I would definitely suggest trying Scotch with Opus cigars anyday. Rating? I don't always give a rating, but this one was one of the best cigars I have smoked, even straight from the B&M Shelf (given that it has age at the factory anyways). I would give it a 95 without blinking, with a few more years on it, this smoke could be a perfect 100. |

Re: Opus X "Lost City" Robusto
UPDATE: I am at work this morning and can still taste how DELICOUS this cigar was.
Why do the best cigars always have to be so damned expensive. I am going to definitely cough the cash for the Lancero version of this ASAP. |
