Default A first for me - a poorly rolled DPG

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. It's still a surprise though.

Bought a DPG Black robusto at the B&M. Squishy and rolled too loose. I recently smoked a Tabacos Baez SF (short filler) that was firmer and drew better than this stick. I dryboxed it for 2 days (the B&Ms humidor is too humid).

Honestly, this is only the second Black I've ever smoked. The first one didn't do anything for me, but reading all the glowing reviews made me decide to revisit.

This one didn't do anything for me either. Spice in the nose, very short finish and nowhere near the "depth" of flavor that his other cigars have.

I gotta learn to start trusting my palate. Especially when it comes to shelling out almost 7 bucks!

Bad stick. It happens. I recently had a Vegas Cubanas that I had to set down half way through. Normally my favorite (well one of many) DPG blend.

Haven't heard of many bad rolls with DPG, so I would write it off as a fluke and continue to enjoy them if they are your cup of tea.

Don't know about poorly rolled, but you had a bad DPG Blue one time.

Just remember that these are handmade products. We all have bad days at our jobs and the torcedors are no different. The cigar factories have quality control in place, but those folks make mistakes too. If your next one is bad, then that is a different story.

I wasn't complaining, you guys...

I guess it was just weird having smoked a fair number of DPGs over the past few years that I FINALLY got one that wasn't perfectly constructed. More of a "Wow!" than a complaint.

Then it dawned on me..."Hey, this guy used to roll cigars in Cuba. How come 25% of his cigars aren't plugged?"

I finally had a poorly rolled DPG cigar yesterday. It was a San Cristobal Seleccion del Sol. It had a very loose draw and wouldn't burn worth a darn.

Not necessarily a poor roll, but:

The other day I grabbed a Blue Label Generoso, cut it and fired it up. When I started puffing, nothing but air. ???

Closer examination revealed three beetle holes just below the label toward the foot.

Now there was nothing in the way of beetle dung or tobacco remnants in the cellophane, the cellophane itself was intact, and an autopsy revealed nothing in the cigar itself. My conclusion is it happened at the factory after rolling but prior to final packaging. The little buggers hatched, ate their way out, and moved on.

Looks like it slipped by QC.
