Default Lancero?

I've never had one, but I've noticed that they are very popular amongst several inmates. I'm usually not a fan of long cigars, but my interest in this size/style has grown. I'm thinking about picking some up but not sure what to try. Any suggestions?

As for my taste in cigars, I somewhat prefer the stouter stuff. I've been on a bit of a maduro kick lately, but I still enjoy a nice, smooth, mild cigar also. In sum, I pretty much like it all.

Thanks in advance.

If you want a smooth, mild lancero, try a R&J Reserva Real. It's one of my favorites.

I would put the cubao lancero on the try list. Also the Maduro LFD lancero as well.

Lanceros must be smoked slowly to be appreciated. Smoking slowly will let the flavors of the wrapper shine.

Among my favorite full flavored lanceros are:
Oliva V
LFD Oscuro
Joya de Nicaragua
Illusione Holy Lance

A bit more medium:
Alec Bradley Tempus
J Fuego Delirium
Casa Torano Maduro

They tend to grow on you. If you are used to larger ring gauges, two things to keep in mind are that you have to smoke slower in order to keep them cool, and you can't let them sit too long like a big cigar without taking the occasional puff. They will go out much faster.

I normally don't smoke lancero's, but I do like the El Triunfador Lancero (made by Tatajue). It's a nice, smooth, full-bodied smoke with lots of flavor!

And, as was stated above, you need to take your time and really enjoy it. It is not something to rush through.

Add the Viaje Platino Lancero to your list, I think it is a damn fine fuller bodied smoke.

Any of these discussed in this thread: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...hlight=lancero

LFD Coronado is another great one.

Here is my rule: If you like the wrapper on a specific cigar, try the vitola with the smallest ring gauge. A smaller ring means you get more wrapper flavor in each puff.

The lancero craze may have started out as a fad, but I think it's caught on because some people really like them. They're not usually a long smoke (around a robusto, in most cases), and are often very flavorful compared to the same stick in a bigger ring.

One valid critisism is that lanceros are usually not as strong in terms of nicotine because they don't have as much filler. So a smoker who is after a real kick might not find them to be the best vitola.

On the flip side, people who like yummy cigars but can't take a lot of strength can often handle the lancero version. Example: Oliva Series V.

I personally love lanceros, and in many cases they are my favorite size in a given blend. I'm into corona and petite coronas lately as well, for the same basic reason (more wrapper).

Along with those already mentioned, I like the Rocky Patel Fusion best in the lancero format, same with the Tatuaje Victorias (a 38-ring, basically a petite lancero). I also love the Tauaje Noella, but that's a standard corona I believe.

La Aroma de Cuba/San Cristobal Lancero Collection
A limited edition Lancero sampler consisting of five La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial and five San Cristobal Lanceros. The cigars measure 7 1/2 x 38.

NJ, they come in a box of ten and the msrp is $9.00 a stick/$90.00 a box....some B&M's are selling individuals, others are only selling as a set.

Petite Corona. My second favorite Tat behind the Especiales.

Thanks for all the recommendations. After considering all the suggestions I picked up an Alec Bradley Tempus at a local b&m. It was one of only three lanceros I could locate here at any b&m. I really enjoyed it and decided to try more.

I decided to wait on the Magnificent Sevens Sampler to show up again on cigarmonster so I could get a nice selection without investing too much money. I've watched cigarmonster closely for a while now and I haven't seen it offered once.

Does anyone know of a good deal being offered anywhere else on a lancero sampler? The regular price for the Magnificent Sevens from famous is more than I want to spend.
