Any decent decaf?
At my last physical, the doc said he was going to take everything I love away from me. He wasn't joking. Among the things I "lost" was my nightly martini with a cigar. Coffee has always been a favorite cigar beverage. Unfortuntely, a sturdy belt of caffeine in the evening keeps me up until the wee hours of the morning.
The wife suggested that I try some of her Eight O'clock decaf. While it is not terrible, I'm hoping to find some decaf that I would like better. Any suggestions? |

There are some great decaf coffees out there. The most experience I've had with them has been with Tanith's home roast. She can give you many details about getting into roasting coffee yourself.

Home roast your own decaf. I like Ethiopian Yergacheffe dcaf, roasted to a medium dark.
I roast the day before I need it and you cannot tell it is decaf.

First read here: http://herfergrrl.wordpress.com/2009...e-of-the-bean/
Then confirm that you have a grinder, preferably a proper burr grinder but in a serious financial pinch, a cheapie will do. Then PM me your street address to get your answer.

Re: Any decent decaf?
YES! Plenty of good decafs out there to be found, same as any bean it has to be fresh.
Learning to roast on decaf is a bit tricky, I have roasted a couple hundred pounds of beans but only 10 pounds of decaf and don't have a perfect handle on it. Still it is a valid and easy option, there are lots of good green decafs out there. My suggestion is to drink enough coffee so you get used to the buzz and then you can sleep. Here is some that come recommended from CG http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/...product/id/433 and http://www.counterculturecoffee.com/...id=6&Itemid=42 and http://www.metropoliscoffee.com/shop/category/coffee/ Last edited by germantown rob; 07-16-2009 at 08:59 AM. |
