Default Plastic Pipes

This post on another site peaked my curiosity on these. So in browsing Ebay, I came across this Venturi, which is a sister pipe to The Pipe & The Smoke. They stummel made from plastic and of carbon fiber composite on the inside of the bowl. They are impervious to water and can be cleaned in a dishwasher.

It is unsmoked a Venturi Billard from 1977, still in the blister pack. It was only $5 plus $4 shipping. I am looking forward to seeing how it smokes. It also comes with a pouch of tobacco, I believe Amphora Red. I wonder if the 32 year old pouch of tobacco will be in any sort of smoke able condition.

There is more info on these pipes here:

http://www.thepipe.info/

Has anyone here smoked them before? I guess they are a love em or hate em proposition.

I refurbed a "The Pipe" awhile ago. Not sure if it's still around here or if I sent it off to someone. It certainly solidly made and, based on handling it, I'd suggest it would live up to the claims noted above.
Here's a pic:

I did have a few bowls in it. It is not too bad. It feels a little on the hot side in the hand, but is OK in the mouth. It also is heavier than a briar pipe. I did not notice any off flavors either.

It certainly is impervious to water. I washed it out in the bathroom sink and it was as good as new. But being impervious to water is also a problem with it. If the tobacco is moist, it is tough to keep it lit to the bottom and you fen end up with the bottom of the bowl filled with soggy tobacco. Briar will absorb some of the excess liquid. Though it may be a little different since it does late you build up a little cake to break it in.

There always seems to ge a few of these on ebay (Search The Pipe, The Smoke or Venturi) for about $5. I can see it getting some use, but not sure if it will be in my regular rotation. But could be handy to try out new blends.
