Murder Mystery Game - who's in?
This is a preliminary poll to see who might be interested in participating in a play by post murder mystery game here on this board. Pick a character, get your dossier of secret information, watch the mystery unfold, and ask the right questions to further your investigation. Make a wrong move, and the killer could strike again.
Folks who enjoy roleplaying games and computer adventure games will like this one, but people with no experience in gaming can also participate - just use your common sense and logic to make good choices for your character, and your best writing skills to describe them. Once we have a cast of characters, we'll be kicking around the idea of a prize pot. This poll is to determine what era folks would like to see the story unfold in. Cigars will, of course, be a central theme to the plot. 1. Gritty modern era murder mystery. Set in Miami, tropical land of enchantment, cigar factories and crime. Everyone takes cop killers seriously, but when the guy who got capped was just a kid who worked at your cigar club, a young Cuban refugee, the cops just don't seem to be moving as quick as they ought to. Life ain't fair, and you really don't think he was mixed up with the wrong crowd like they said he was. But can you prove it? 2. Wild West saloon filled with strong cigar smoke and tough-talkin' cowboys, belles of the ball, outlaw gunslingers, professional gamblers and of course the town sheriff. Everybody who comes to the saloon is packing not just a six-shooter, but their own personal history, with the town's sheriff and also with one another. So it's no surprise when the sheriff winds up dead. The only question is, who dun it? And with the sheriff dead, who's the law in this town? 3. Space station holodeck bar, with aliens of all imaginable sizes and shapes coming to partake in a rare shipment of prime Terran tobacco, cigars from a bygone era. What happens when the shipment is stolen, the Quaran ambassador killed, and interstellar war threatened? Using your special abilities and senses, can you find enough pieces of the puzzle in time to keep the space station intact? You can vote for more than one of these options if you choose. Your choices will be visible.

Re: Murder Mystery Game - who's in?
I know Emjay wants in.......be sure to sign up if you voted.
I can squeeze a few more folks in than 8 if necessary, it just runs a tad slower with more than 10 characters, and there's two "house characters" written in.

Re: Murder Mystery Game - who's in?
Because the poll is apparently not showing everyone who voted, if you voted and assumed you were counted in, go ahead and sign up - I'll accommodate you.
Everyone else, game is now up to full capacity. The fun will begin in a few days. Rules will be posted shortly.

I have participated in similar games online before. I would most likely be in for it.

Re: Murder Mystery Game - who's in?
I want to make sure I accommodate everybody who voted in the poll and thought that this would automatically sign them up as players. After that, MedicCook, CigarGal and AndyMadera are next on the list. I can fit you guys on board if I drop a house character, it's just going to take me a little longer to prep the scenario.
I'm going to go ahead and post the rules so folks can start thinking about some basic ideas for their characters - eg, are you a gunslinger, a gambler, the town doctor, the mayor, the owner of the local cigar store, a "lady of the evening" with a heart of gold, etc. Remember, don't post your number scores when you've decided on them; those are a secret between you and the mystery host.

Re: Murder Mystery Game - who's in?
Welcome to Coyote Falls, a small town out on the wild frontier not far from the Mexican border, where everything is not quite as it seems. You might have been a resident of this town for some time, part of the local color, or you might be a traveler from afar come to seek your fortune or your refuge. The year is 1906, and the talk of the town is the Great Fire that just destroyed San Francisco and left a quarter million homeless. But there's more to worry about right now in Coyote Falls since the sheriff just turned up dead and nobody knows whodunit. Or for that matter, who's the law in this town. Could it be you?
Read the rules thread carefully, and get ready to draft your characters. You can flesh them out as much as you want, or you can give me a general idea of the kind of character you'd like to play, or you can default to "house character" and I'll hand you a pre-written one. Looking forward to seeing y'all's creativity! Also, we need to decide what the prize pot should be. If everyone antes up cigars, we'll have a nice one. House can't win (and neither can anyone who lives with me) but if we do prizes, I'll ante up something suitable for the era of the game.
