Gentleman Jack
I decided to smoke a 1962 Camacho last night with a glass of Gentlman. I really like 62 Camacho and the Gentlman. I had just never had them together. I was in for a real dissapointment! The cigar started out just the way all the other 62's that i have smoked, then i took a sip of the Jack and boy did things go down hill! It made the cigar taste real bitter, and the Jack was funny tasting also! I ended up tossing the glass of Jack(it almost made me cry) and trying to at least save the smoke, but my palate never did come back around. Lesson learned!
Is there any combos thay anyone else thought would be great, but ended in disaster? |

Sorry for your bad pairing!!!
Yeah! I just finished a '08 Padilla Miami and Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA! Not a very good combo at all!!! The cigar was tasty with a bit of spice, but the beer was way too sweet!!!

Re: Gentlman Jack
Its amazing how everyone's palate is varied. I love to drink the 90min. with nearly any full bodied smoke.

This would have been better with a spicy drink or a more bitter IPA... IMHO!!!

Re: Gentleman Jack
Jack Daniels does have a green label. The wharehouse where the mature Jack has probably about 17 levels that hold the barrels. The first 2 levels which stay the coolest since heat rises is where the Green Label comes from. Since this level does not get as hot the barrel does not expand and contract as much and therefore the liquor does not go into the pours and absorb the vanilla oak flavor from the barrel. Level 3 through through 15 are your standard black label and the upper levels are Single Barrel Jack. Gentleman Jack is black label Jack that is charcoal mellowed a second time before bottling.

Re: Gentleman Jack
I used to be a huge Jack fan. Once I had the Gentleman Jack some years back I can't drink the regular stuff any more. Smooth and smokey.
I have also missed on the pairing before as well. Typically I drink Evan Williams Single Barrell. Sime times with a milder stick the smoke and bite of the bourbon can over whelm the cigar.

Re: Gentleman Jack
The best experience that i had was with a AF hemi sig perfecto and a 6er of Sierra Nevada. Let me tell you that was a tasty combo if i ever had one!!! To be honest i dont think i have ever had a problem w any cigars i have smoked with a Sierra Nevada.

Re: Gentleman Jack
Jim Beam use to make me do stupid things! The last experience i had with Jim included me to try and flip a pool table over on my buddy and falling down a flight of stairs. Jim and I parted years ago!

Re: Gentleman Jack
I prefer the No.7 over Gentleman Jack. IMO they filter out everything that makes JD so good yeah it's smooth but it doesn't have that same Jack Daniels taste.

Re: Gentleman Jack
I knew it wouldn't be great, but any light (or lite) beer with a RASS. I didn't think it would be a good pairing, but I didn't thinks it would completely ruined my cigar!
