Default could this be from a beetle?

I noticed this on the cap of my 5 Vegas Series "A" on sunday, does this look like a beetle did this damage? I know that it is normally a round hole but it kindof looks like a couple holes right next to each other

pics

thanks

Not a dumb question at all! I would keep a close eye on the neighboring boxes but wouldn't freeze them. But that's just me. If it makes you feel more at ease, go ahead and freeze them too. Odds are you will encounter them again sometime down the road so now, you know exactly what to look for. Be sure to pull the cigars out if that box and check it out. You may just find a beetle roaming around or dead.

Have to go check the stash now that I see evidence of beetles again. Good luck on getting rid of them bro.

Ah, its posts like this that make me paranoid about my own stash! Hate to say it brotha, but that is a (more multiple) beetles. I would keep an eye on all of your boxes in the vino ESPECIALLY the ones that might have come in contact with this one.

Not necessarily. One beetle can cause alot of damage and if it stays in one area, it's tunnel can look like more than one. Especially if it eats its way out and then back in again. That's what it looks like to me but admittedly, there easily could be more than one.

You need to do an autopsy on that stick. Hard to tell whether it is an exit or entrance hole or both.

Not a dumb question at all.

In all liklihood there is no transference if it was in a closed box to other closed boxes, in fact it is likely infestation happened prior to even getting into your Vino. If it was in an open tray I would argue there is more risk.

That having been said, any risk is too much from my perspective. As you can see from my link in my prior post I have had bugs in the past 3 times. My collection is far too valuable, both figuratively and subjectively to risk. I freeze every stick that comes into my house regardless of source. I have frozen thousands of cigars and smoked many hundreds of them. Since I have become fastitious (read anal) about my intake process I have had zero problems

Aside from a good source of protein, as mentioned north, a beetle makes for an entertaining POP when you smoke him. Tons of fun.

Could this be a good reason to leave the cello on, or wouldn't it make a difference?

Beetles come from eggs inside the cigar, and once they hatch they'll eat the cello as readily as the tobacco. A tube'll stop them, but that's about it.
