Repairing a paint chip on a car advice
So washed the car for the first time in two or three weeks today (been out of town, busy, weather's been crappy, etc.).
Apparently we got a nice chip on one of the doors, no doubt thanks to one of our neighbors or someone at a store. Rust has already formed, but I'm not too worried about being able to get it off as I think that part will be easy. What I am worried about is how to repair the paint afterwards and make it look decent. Does anybody have any ideas or any methods they have used that work? I googled and found this... anyone used it before? http://www.langka.com/paint_chip_repair.php Thanks. |

Re: Repairing a paint chip on a car advice
I never used that, Dave.
What I do is get a stick of "my color paint" from an auto store. Then I get a stick of clear coat. I use alcohol to clean the area. If alcohol doesn't do it, I use rubbing compound, then alcohol. The rubbing compound will scuff the clear coat and make it dull, so I'm very careful just to do the tiny area where it's necessary with the corner of a rag. The clear coat will cover the scuff and it's all darn near invisible when it's done. It has to be 60 plus degrees to do any of this, by the way. Can't do it in the cold.

That's the company that I use. Perfect match every time. Be sure to use your VIN number when ordering. They will send or you can download directions from them. Do they cost a little more? Sure - but you know, you get what you pay for. Ron |
