Re: Allow me to be a grammer nazi for a while
While we're on the subject, I know most teachers tell us that "aint" is not a word. "Ain't" is a word; it's a contraction made up of the words "am" and "not". Amn't just doesn't sound right. "Ain't" is not proper grammar but it is a word.

You should see some wine boards, I can never explain how people spending hundreds of dollars on a bottle of wine can't tell the difference between palate and pallet.

Re: Allow me to be a grammer nazi for a while
Because being able to spend/spending hundreds on a bottle of wine doesn't require intelligence?

Actually, intelligence IS required, IMO. Price has nothing to do with quality. Same as with cigars and any other consumer product. . . . . Back to the thread now. |

My brother likes to talk about his "most favoritest <insert topic here>". I like to think/hope that he is just doing that to annoy us, but I'm not sure.

Re: Allow me to be a grammer nazi for a while
Does it really have to matter in a forum such as this one?

Re: Allow me to be a grammer nazi for a while
Believe me, I'm there with the OP. Poor grammar is just rampant, and not just in schools.
Ask a High School teacher...it's BAD. Even at work I see people TYPE just as they speak. No difference. As a result, work from our office can seem completely unprofessional. Don't people know you write in a different manner than you speak? Of course ideally we should all speak proper grammar...something I have started to attempt. Some people think it makes you sound pompous....I prefer the term "educated"

I was thinking of what to post, and went through a list in my head.
A) Nope. B) Nope. C) Nope. D) Nope. E) Ugly. Therefore, I will not post in this thread. (Except for this one recounting my dilemma. ) |
