WoW is the devil's game. But if you are playing solo PvE it shouldn't eat you away. It is when you start high end PVP or raiding that it becomes a time suck.

I'm really digging Rift. Just tagged 41. The class system is spectacular since you can essentially change at will with 8 sub-classes per main category.

WoW I haven't played in the better part of a year. I haven't maxed out and started raiding. Got a couple toons in the mid 50s. *shrug* I end up spending more time running around with a pickaxe than actually killing stuff.

Minecraft is a special kind of life suck too. The 1.8 this fall is going to be quite something.

Then of course there's the grand daddy of all awesome online time sucks.

EvE.

We don't talk about EvE.

HAHAH. I loved WoW and EVE for a while. Both are like having 2nd jobs now. I've been sampling the F2P stuff. DDO, AVA and World of Tanks. In addition to the time putting into Minecraft multiplayer and StarCraft 2.

Season 3 of StarCraft starting soon. Need to play more 1v1 and get gold this round. =)

DDO makes me want to poke my eyes out. But that's just my Soloitis.

Global Agenda is a solid F2P, as are a couple of the other ones that just were pushed out with Steam.

I'm interested to see what happens when Fallen Earth goes F2P in a couple months. The graphics were so unbelievably choppy it was tough to stick with. Interesting play model though.

I never played EvE. But I played the HELL out of the original Everquest and it's 7 expansions.

I finished up God of War 2 last night and started in on The Witcher 1. These controls are going to take some getting used to. Space pauses the game to let me issue commands and there is no jump. I keep accidently pausing the game because I'm used to jumping like a maniac

Yep. EverCrack. back when the player market was the tunnel between east west commons on Sundays at 1:00 EST.

I remember running from Qeynos to Freeport with a L6 rogue (since I FINALLY had hide & sneak) through Gorge and Eye.

SoW is for wimps.

We used to have GM led raids from nektulos into freeport. Half the time when we hit the zone boundry we'd take down the server.

I secretly want Anarchy Online to hurry up with that engine upgrade.

Trine. Damn fine game.

Although I rage quitted on one spot. "Race against the rising (something that kills you instantly)" levels require me to take breaks on occasion

I finished this game up last night...apparently I raged out on the very last level . Was fun and a good change of pace from my normal style of game.

Tonight I will try and finish up God of War 2. I was too tired to beat the reflex game a few nights ago.

I also need to start up God of War 3, The Witcher 1 & The Witcher 2, and Sanctum...in addition to the DLC for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Stupid work getting in the way of my video gaming...

Scruffy Forever!

I never got to DAoC at all. People raved about it. Agreed about SWTOR. I was really digging SWG before NGE. But that's the old story.

I'll probably go back to WoW sometime soon. The sense of humor is just too great, as long as you can avoid the 12 year olds.

Aside from those rare GM events, I never raided really. I don't group/guild/corp up, preferring to use MMOs as big single player RPGs with giant chat rooms and interesting economies. When I want to hang with other people, I do it in meatspace.

But I fear that it will be much like going back to your grandparents house. it just won't be as amazing as I remember it.

I played EQ during its golden years. There really wasn't any other competition (DAOC, EvE are the only ones I can think of) and so it was thoroughly saturated with players, the game was complex & punishing enough that the upper end players were almost always intelligent, and the game was in constant development. I played again when they hit their 10 year anniversary just for an afternoon and it felt so...I don't know...sepia toned. It wasn't the vibrant, lively EQ I had known. It had lost whatever the EQ quality was - whether that was the player base, my guild, the real life friends that I had that still played the game, the fact that I knew the game inside and out at the time, whatever.

TL;DR version: Time makes memories awesome until you go back and actually revisit it.

I actually downloaded the free trial for EQ just to explore Qeynos and see if it might be fun to revisit, but they stuck you on a newbie island and the combat was so painful that I couldn't play it for more than 15 minutes. I did get a little shiver up my spine when I hit level two and had that *DING* sound play.

Ah, memories

Yeah combat music is enough to kill yourself by, and it is a slow grindfest. But there's some stuff in there that I've STILL never seen as good. Like some of the crafting mechanics. You just had to know, as a player (not character) a recipe to take a crack at something. Nobody's done that since that I know of. There was all KINDS of weirdness; exceptions to the formulas built in to the game.

Crafting in that game was WEIRD.

At the time, quests didn't seem weird as they were standard MUD format. The PITA part was figuring out what to say if they didn't have anything [in brackets] to guide you. Looking back - that is a dumb system .

PVP was hilarious to watch - because the game was flat out not optimized at all for PVP. It was a PVE game through and through

Yeah. Most of the new stuff (yeah, there was just an expansion last year) has a new quest interface. But the quests in Qeynos are still soul-crushingly annoying, doing the binary search of pasting the source text in to see what triggers the quest drop or whatever it was.

REALLY? An expansion?

Damn. Last time I logged on Plane of Knowledge had like 15 people in it at 3pm on a Saturday. I'm amazed they still have the player base to validate an expansion...

Ya know I just unsubbed from AO and EvE (let the month run out but they're both boring me senseless) and poked my head over to WoW to re-up for a month, and it gave me the option to take a free week. I clicked, so I could laugh at them, thinking it was "we'll give you a free week if you re-up for a year." But it turns out it was an honest to goodness plain old "no credit card required" free week.

That ought to be enough time to get sick of it again

I can't wait until the rest of my toys come so I can set up the machine shop in the new house, keep me away from this garbage.
