Default Re: Buried cigars?

I have a few tips or suggestions if anyone is intersted installing their own Cigar Sewer:

1 . A 6" dia. pipe is all that would be needed to insert a 15 Cigar Caddy but the 8" dia. pipe, with it's extra volume is nice but the cost difference between 6" and 8" is significant.

2. I would not recommend going any deeper than 5.0' since most post hole digger handles are not longer than 5.0'

3. I recommend the lid I used (gasketted - with the gasket removed). It slides nicely over the pipe. It can easily be removed without tools.

4. Compact the soil around the pipe as you backfill with the end of your shovel. This will prevent settling.

5. The 8" dia. sewer pipe is an SDR 35 pipe. This is plenty heavy stuff!

6. Be sure you prime and glue the end cap on with recommend PVC glue. This will ensure water tightness at the bottom of the pipe.

7. Velcro works nicely inside the tube to hold a lighter.

8. If I were to do it again, I'd use a remote thermometer and tape the end to the floor of the pipe, the wire to the side and attach the actual readout portion to the inside of the lid. (I may still do this). This way, you could easily know the temp in the bottom of the tube.

8. The only drawback to "the Sewer" is that you won't want to pull the lid to access you cigars in the rain. This might get water down your nifty new pipe. That said, I only smoke outside and don't need access to my cigars if it's raining. This might be a problem for someone that smokes inside.
