today one of our nations most important battles began. The Battle of Gettysburg started and in my opinion along with the falling of Vicksburg on July 4th, was the turning point in the Civil War and would lead to the eventual defeat of the Confederacy.

God Bless America,

And God Bless Pvt. Henry Ward, Co. D 2nd N.C. Troops. Wounded and captured at Gettysburg.

and God Bless Basil C. Manly, who's artillery battery fired 1,146 rounds in support of the battle and retreat to Funkstown.

Let us not forget the sacrifice of both sides.

One of my ancestors fought at the Peach Orchard section of Gettysburg, with the 105th Pennsylvania V.I.R.

That was a time when they built ships of wood, and men of steel.

Sadly, Gettysburg is one of the few civil war battlefields I've not had a chance to visit. I don't know if I could actually walk on the fields there. I'm not a person that believes in ghosts, but I've been is Shiloh numerous times, Camped inside Chickamauga four times, Drove and walked Vicksburg half a dozen times, been to numerous smaller C.W. battle sites and dozens of C.W. cemeteries. For some reason, I seem to feel the presences of the dead in Shiloh and Vicksburg rather strongly, somewhat in Chickamauga. I think the feeling might be overwhelming in Gettysburg. For a non-believer in ghosts, it is a rather heavy and heartbreaking?? feeling!

I got that "feeling" when I went to Shiloh, also.
