Have the flyers been called for a penalty yet? I know they commit about 1 every 2 or 3 minutes, but nothing gets called. I missed most of periods 1 and 2 tonight so maybe they actually got called for something?

Philly is Detroit this year it seems.

Seemed to be a better game by both teams, at least defensively. That 2nd goal by Eager looked pretty weak, IDK if the goalie was screened slightly or not. The Hawks seemed to hang on for this one, I did not like their play in the 3rd.

But being up 2-0, I can't complain!

GO HAWKS!

Everybody take a deep breath and stop the whining about the non-calls! The Flyers know they can't let him/them camp out in front of the net for as long as him/they want. IMO, the Flyers are doing exactly what they need to do.

Players that camp out in front of the net have been getting slashed, crosschecked, etc. for a long long time. It's always been a part of the game. I realize the league has started calling some of that tighter in recent years, but they've continued to allow more aggression in front of the net than anywhere else on the ice. The Flyers are pushing that envelope each game to see how far they can take it. IMHO, there are, and should be two unwritten standards for penalties; those in front of the net and those elsewhere on the ice.

It could also be an East/West Conference thing. The competing for territory in the slot seems more commonplace in the Eastern Conference, as is cycling around the boards (meaning chip in, and battle for possession via cycling - not cycling passes per se). It seems the West doesn't play those styles as much and it's more of a transition game. Again, I don't watch a ton of Western Conference games, so I could be wrong.

Congrats to the Hawks on the win....let's hope they can keep it up in Philly. Really enjoyed watching the defense control both sides of the puck.

I was actually being somewhat "tongue in cheek", Joel. As a player, i miss the days when D-men could defend that area in front of the net. And Pronger is one of the best at it. It's just too bad for the Flyers that he can't play 60 minutes a game.

I would have guessed you felt that way.

Ain't that the truth, no matter whose team he's on. Laviolette may try though!

Coburn has done an admirable job being their 2nd big tough defenseman, but he doesn't compare to Pronger (he did look very good last night though).
