Default Reposado habano

The Reposado is another AJ Fernandez blend, one of the hottest names in the industry at the moment and referred to as "the poor man's Don Pepin" due to his strong and spicy blends for bargain prices. This reposado, which is only released as a 7 x 58 salomon, can be bought for just $ 2.50 a piece.

Simon aka SmokeyNL gave me this cigar for review purposes, he gave me both the maduro and the habano, and I decided to light the habano. The cigar has a rough wrapper that looks tough with all the veins. The construction feels good and the predraw, which gives me a mixture of raisin and wood with a peppery aftertaste, is just fine. The cigar has a unique aroma, very deep and dark but not strong at all.

I get quite a full flavor, earthy with a bit of coffee and wood, all mild peppery. The pepper gains some strength for a while and then mellows out again. I taste a full earthy flavor with some leather and just a hint of pepper. At a certain moment I can also taste a mild chocolate in the aftertaste.

The pepper gains some strength again, and the chocolate returns. Halfway I also discover a nut flavor, which keeps on disappearing and appearing for the remainder of the cigar.

I get a lot of smoke from the cigar and the smoke is medium thick. Usually I have burn problems at the beginning of a Salomon or perfecto, but this cigar burns straight as an arrow right from the start. The firm as is silvery gray. The cigar is definitely full flavored and full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes. It is a nice cigar, especially when you take the price into consideration. There isn't much depth in the cigar, and there isn't a lot going on at the palate, the cigar was never boring.

Appearance: 6 / 10
Construction: 7 / 10
Draw: 7 / 10
Burn: 8 / 10
Smoke & ash: 7 / 10
Aroma first part: 7 / 10
Aroma second part: 7 / 10
Aroma third part: 7 / 10

Nice review, Ferdie. I want to try the maddie before I commit to a box, but I think these would be great golf smokes.

These look a lot like a cigar I used to get from a guy in Illinois, I think he went out of business. I really liked them! I wanna get a few of these and see if they are the same. Great review.
