so if you were the writer of "Independece Day," are you thinking "holy sh!t, I'm as smart as Hawking, and I put this theory out there years earlier!"

If you look at the way we treat species "lower" than us (we eat them, experiment on them, keep them as pets, exterminate them as pests, etc.), he has a good point.
