Things go better with...
I was at the local Big Box Club last night and came across the nectar of the gods; Mexican Coke. The cola, not the powder wise guys. Mexican, or any Coke other than US, is made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup. MMmmmm, MMMMmmmmm good! Clean with no lingering mouth film.
ANNNNNNDDDD It goes great with my Padron 1926 maduro. Steve |

I've always enjoyed it as well and definitely noticed the difference. Another superior product - McDonalds. We call it MexiDonalds and it is WAY better than what we have here.

OK, so where do you get it from? Is it Coca-Cola, or some other brand? Picture of it? Thanks. Peace of the Lord be with you.

It's official Coca-cola, alright. It's bottled in Mexico instead of the US. I have no idea how it ended up in my local big box. It has Mexican labeling with english stickers on it. It's the first I've seen it and I'm glad I did. Expensive though. $18 for a case of 24 12oz bottles. OH! that's another thing that makes it better. The bottles are GLASS!

Kroger sells it in their Mexican food isle. But at almost $2 a bottle, I think I'll pass!

I guess if I drank soda (aside from the tasting out of curiosity once in a blue moon) I might be ticked too... Last edited by T.G; 03-25-2010 at 11:07 PM. |

Alcoholism....that was the first thing I thought when I saw the title of this thread...upon reading it, however, I do feel as though you have a point...the Mexican Coke is pretty good...(Colombian is WAY BETTER...different topic however...) although I have always been more partial to Dr. Pepper....

I had a coke in Italy a few times, and it was amazing. They also sell them in glass bottles. It is really neat. I used to go through 1 L glass bottles of coke per day. It has such a rich taste. You literally taste the pepper and cane sugar in it. It is hard to explain. I have no clue why American coke is so bad, but it sucks.
P.S. I love Root Beer with my cigars |

Re: Things go better with...
Like I said, it's probably the use of high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar. I know that I've done "blind taste tests" before without really realizing it. Some of my friends are Canadians and occasionally they come over with a six pack of coke and the taste is different.
I recall one comment by a doctor stating that one difference between HFCS and cane sugar is that your body knows when to turn off the "sugar craving" when it metabolizes cane sugar, but not with HFCS. So instead of stopping at a couple of cans/bottles of coke, you end up scarfing more. Of course, there's contradictory studies indicating there's no difference between HFCS vs. cane sugar (studies funded by the soft drink industry). Personally, I don't drink much soft drinks (may be 1 can every three or four days) and I don't allow my kids to drink it either. But that aside, the taste difference is something no amount of study can convince me of since I can easily pick out cane sugar vs HFCS soft drinks without even really trying. Ferrari5180 is correct, the flavor of the cola really pops out at you when you drink one made from cane sugar. The one from HFCS is more muted and mostly just "sweet". |
