Pair that with a ginger beer and you'll be talking baseball.

Might pick up a bottle of Black Seal to try that with, from what I tasted last night the Old Rum is a sipping rum that I won't be mixing (especially considering how much it costs in BC). I tend to prefer neat spirits to mixed drinks anyways.

What else should I look for.
You're on the right track, I think Sailor Jerry is much better than the Captain. There are a few good rums that ought to be easy to find most anywhere. Bacardi 8 isn't bad, and it'll be everywhere. Mount Gay Extra Old and Cruzan Single Barrel are usually easy to find, and I enjoy them both. The sweet rums like Zaya/Zacapa will be harder to find this far north, but you may be able to find a bottle of Pyrat. It's not quite the same as the Z's, but it's more common. Going in another direction, try a bottle of Gosling Black Seal. If you can't find any of those, drive further

I've beeen eyeing up the Old Family Rum for awhile now, haven't been able to pull the trigger though. Is it comparable to anything else?

Unfortunately I'm not the best person to ask that question. I'm primarily a scotch guy so my experience with premium rums is quite limited. It's quite different from both Pyrat and the bottle of Renegade (1995 Don Jose Panamanian) that she gave me last Valentines if that helps.

My bad...you're absolutely correct. I saw Gosling and automatically started thinking Black Seal. I haven't tried the Old Rum--yet. Have to add that one to the list to pick up.
