Good for you, bad for others. It's one of many things on my "Oh Sh*t, he's kicking my A$$" list. The super mallet and throwing stars along with any pets is on that list. Then there's let me throw away my sword to fight your mace with a knife! Or I have a perfectly good sword, but I'm not going to use it as I want to beat you to death my hands even though you have a hatchet.

I seem to be in a trend of only winning 2 of 3 fights lately.

I'm on a 6 fight win streak with my main Brute. My other one is a bit weak. I usually only win one of 3. Sometimes 2.
