He doesn't do it all the time, but occasionally will ask if he can sniff it before I light it. I used to chew tobacco and he was intrigued by that until one day he found my tin in the car and filled his mouth when we were packing for a trip. We came out and he had chew and drool all over the front of him as he was trying to get it out and was drooling all over himself. After that he wasn't concerned with my dip and it wasn't a big deal for him.

When I was my son's age (9) my dad smoked cigars with his buddies occasionally. The only recollection I have of this is because I remember distinctly the time I bugged him to try one and he told me I had to smoke the whole thing, once I started I knew it was bad. I smoked it down to the nub, was green and sick. I never remember cigars after that day because I wasn't interested in them I'm assuming.

I've thought of doing this with my son as I think it would solve the problem I have. I won't do it because I'd end up in trouble and the morality police would come down on me.

So I'm hoping that as I educate him properly, by answering his questions honestly and explaining what I'm doing that he will learn to respect them as I do and eventually when he's old enough make a choice if he wants to try them or not.

Anyone else have kids that are interested and curious like my son? How have you handled the questions.
Dont have kids but I think you have hit it on the head! Education and honesty is the best method in my opinion!
