I use to blow off the whole Davidoff line as a bunch of overpriced hype until I smoked a few and I was hooked.

Anyway. I'm noticing many who really prefer cubans being the bigger davidoff fans. Which could draw a few conclusions. 1. Davidoff does a good job of "imitating" Cuban taste. 2. The snob factor. "Cubans are rare and expensive like my precious davidoff. " I'm sure there are a both but if I had to venture a guess with the botl here I'd go with the taste. The asylum isn't exactly a snobbery. Taste would also explain why I'm just a so so fan of davidoff. I prefer many nicaraguan, Dominican and honduran smokes to cubans. That's my taste. |

I've had quite a few in the Davidoff line. The Milleniums are the best, IMO. But for the price, there are so many other things I would rather smoke. I smoke them only rarely, rather have a PAM64 or a good Boli.

1. Davidoff does a good job of "imitating" Cuban taste. - I don't know of anyone who would say that an NC Davidoff is similar in taste to a Cuban cigar. 2. "Cubans are rare and expensive like my precious davidoff. " - Cubans are neither rare nor expensive. ![]()

Of course to each their own... while some people prefer the padron annis or the Opus, I'd rather have a harder to find Kelner blend. They typically make me happier. As others have noted, the construction and burn are near flawless on these cigars, while not the total of the experience, it does add to the experience. |

![]() ![]() ![]() For me, Davidoffs are a thing of beauty. It's all about subtlety with these cigars. Even though I agree that Davidoffs are pricey, for me, it's more than worth it. For the experience it provides me, there is no other cigar that comes close. If you're looking to get kicked in the nuts by a cigar's strength, move past the Davidoffs. They're exceptionally complex, filled with subtlety and nuance, and a cigar that is best enjoyed when you have quality time to dedicate to it. I've NEVER been dissapointed by a single Davidoff. Ever. But I've been dissapointed by every other cigar at one time or another. At the risk of sounding too cerebral, I literally find myself having a real experience everytime I light one up. Just like really good cooking, you can taste the love that was put into these cigars. Its all in the construction, aroma, taste, burn qualities, strength, and overall character. My tastes are wide-ranging. From Macanudo Gold Labels to Illusione Holy Lances. But if I fire up a Davidoff, it's because I have time to really sit down and spend some quiet time, contemplate the days events, and enjoy one. And in the end, it's all about the experience and enjoyment a cigar provides you. Honestly though, I can see how smoking one knowing how much you paid for it, could actually distract from the enjoyment of it. |
