Funny old cigar ad
Came across this ad at my job and thought I'd post it for some others to see. I got a kick out of the last line in the ad! It's from May 25, 1918.
I also read that George Burns used a Ricoro cigar when he was 14 as his first prop. Sorry about the quality, but I snapped the pics with my camera phone real quick. |

Re: Funny old cigar ad
Nice find. The "Who discovered Ricoro cigars" paragraph sounds like it was written by Lew from the JR catalogs.

I think the guy on the left is Lew Rothman!
Using doctors in advertising was popular way back when. Chesterfield cigarettes had ads with "doctor recommended" text and pictures of docs smoking. Nathan's hotdogs in Coney Island gave free hotdogs to doctors and took pictures of them eating them to use in ads. These ad campaigns led people to think that all this stuff is good for them. I guess it worked, because there's nothing better than a couple of dogs with a nice cigar for dessert. Thanks for sharing that, it's cool.

Re: Funny old cigar ad
I believe Ricoro would later become United Tobacco, which later became General Cigar.....I think I missed a few steps in there.....
