Glut in the market, or is it a less desirable caliber these days?

I think it's both. It was a caliber that never really caught on with the general public and apparently a lot of police departments are recycling them now.

I remember when the .40 came out and wondering why?

As you probably remember, a big ballistics study was done by the Justice Dept./FBI after that shootout in Miami that left four of their agents dead, and others wounded. (Do I have those numbers right?) Didn't matter that there were tactical and operational problems at fault too, they blamed the 9mm and .38/.357 guns and ammo.

End result, they decided that the 10mm was the new go to. Then re-decided that the round was too long, and full powered loads, too powerful. Hence, the .40 S&W became the new king.

The rest of the story has been laid out already, I'm feeling like a windbag at this point, sorry.

I like 10mm. It's my goto woods pistol.

Oh yeah, I have a Glock model 20 for trips to places like the Smoky Mountains. I ain't hunting bears, wild boar, and mountain lions, but if they hunt me it's game on.

Yeah, I remember it was primarily the FBI that pushed the .40. Now that they've abandoned it and gone back to the 9mm, other agencies are apparently following their lead so you can pick up used trade-ins on the cheap right now.

Gracias, Bill and Brian.

Funny, my department (which I retired from in 2017) went from Glock 9mm to Glock 40s right after I left.

Were they afraid you wouldn't be able to handle the recoil of the .40 caliber, icehog? Very considerate of 'em to wait!

You walked into that one sir!
