I've always used Meguiars Gold class to wash, I've been told that dish washing soap actually strips the car of the waxes/polishes.
My procedure to clean: Wet Sand if Needed Meguiars Gold Class wash Meguiars #2 Fine Cut Cleaner Meguiars #7 Show car glaze or #3 Professional Machine Glaze (3 coats) Meguiars #26 Hi-Tech Liquid Wax (2 coats) It's been a looong time since I've done this procedure, I wonder if I remember all the techniques and gentle touch to even attempt the whole thing. I just used a standard drill and attachment with wool pads. Never burned the paint and had amazing results.

This is very true. When I used to detail cars, I would wash wish dish soap after I called a car--just to make absolutely positively sure that all the gunk was off.
