The trend is definitely towards larger RG cigars. While they may not suit the average Asylum smoker, if you look around at any cigar shop, most guys are smoking big cigars. A few years ago 60RG was a huge smoke, today they are common place. Recently, several manufacturers have come out with 70's are they are selling. Even Habanos SA has marked the trend by rolling it's largest stick ever, a 58RG.

The 60 ring gauge are typically not my favorite, I've seen some 70 rg cigars before but not 80. I think they in large part are playing on the idea that most consumers will think that more inherently equals better cigar or better value. I'm not saying there aren't great big rg smokes, I just usually steer clear.
