His machine surrounded hate and forced it to surrender. Plus he was a leader in the environmental movement, co-founding the organization Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in 1966, which was instrumental (no pun intended, but delightfully serendipitous) in helping to reverse the poisoning of this river, and which to this day aids in the monitoring of pollution and the education of others as to its importance to us all.

Rest in peace, Pete . . . you've earned it. America has lost one of those rare heroes who had the courage to tell those in power where to stick it, and I despair for a nation founded by such heroes which now views them in such poor light, and attempts to dissuade others from sailing a similar course.

Well said Thomas. Pete was a heck of a man, giving in so many ways. Rest in Peace Pete, thank you for stiring our mind and our souls.
