What's with people calling you "Chief" ?

Hmmm, my job title contains "Chief" in the sense of numero uno and a couple of my guys call me Chief. After reading this, I'll never again be sure if they call me Chief because of my job title or because I'm an a-hole (yeah, could be both.). Thanks a lot for planting this seed in my mind.
