Problem #1: Use painters (masking) tape on the lips to create a good seal. If it's very severe, you can try weather stripping.

Problem #2: I learned this trick from Shilala: Pour ammonia in a cup and let it sit in there for a week or so. It resurrected my ACID infested humidor. Good luck!
