Terminology aside, very few fried chicken recipes ever call for an egg wash. Hell, I guess. I act like I checked or something, lol. But as my first job was frying chicken, I know it is more of a milky marinade of spices. Eggs are fine though but with wings I think flour is sufficient. No, here is simple...."Jamie Carrol's USAF hot stoner wings" recipe. Fry wing parts. In microwave, melt one stick of butter. Add to mixture one bottle of texas pete. Stir, pour over wings. Eat. Smoke giant hooter over plate of bones. This was all PRE-"Quality Force" days Last edited by OLS; 03-17-2010 at 11:57 AM. |

I was at our local store the other day looking for corn meal and ran across the new Hooter's Hot Wing Batter. Yep it's pre-packaged now.

I took a bag home and cooked up some wings, no egg wash is used and they fried up pretty nice but needed a little more salt IMO. |

Yes, Walmart (at least ours) carries this. I've had a bag in the pantry for better than a year, using a little here and there. One pound bag of the dry mixture is used on five pounds of wings. Directions are simple. Pour 5 lbs of wings and the whole 1 lb package of the dry mix into a bowl. Toss until all wings are coated well. Put wings on cookie sheets (or foil), place in fridge for 90 minutes. Cook in 350 degree oil until done. No egg/milk wash needed. No muss, no fuss. I just use how much is needed for the amount of wings I'll be cooking, put the rest back in a zip-lock bag for future needs.
