IT's funny the forum that I lived on before coming here was a poker chip one. We used to have two regular games a week... but then everyone moved away and left me here pokerless

Anyway for not much money you can get a good set of faux clay chips, MUCH better than plastic IMHO.

I will give you the link. If this is not cool, Mods feel free to delete it

Some good info there, thanks.

I found a really nice 14g 500 piece clay chip set for $55 shipped!

I am sure they may be nice chips but they most likely are not true clay chips... I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything just want to make sure you know what you are getting. Most likely a clay composite, not a bad thing just a different feel from a chip you would play with at a casino. They use either clay or ceramics.

BUT that said we played with a Costco plastic set for three years so even a clay composite would have been a step up from that.

What do you like, solid colors or spots?

I'm looking for "casino-like" chips, something like these:

Not bad. I understand budget is budget... less you spend on chips = more to spend on sticks!!

I got caught up in the whole chip thing, was about to pull the trigger on a custom ceramic set before my game fell apart. These are pics of the prototype... makes me sad just looking at the now

So to be honest I may be the wrong one to give advice... I like poker chips. The bottom line to me I guess is it doesn't matter, as long as you are playing. But there are some nicer feeling and sounding chips out there. These are a nice set, I have some samples of these. I was going to print labels and make my own custom set. The boys do that alot.

This is a good place for some research if you want to read a few reviews. I liked right to the injection molded stuff as I think that is what you are looking for.

pokerchipreviews.com

Just to straight up kill you you can have a 300 pc custom set of ceramic chips for a little over $300. These are not Chipco (like in the casinos) but there are SWEET!!

you do not want to click this link... poker chips are a slippery slope as well

Please don't tell me that..

I'm going to read up on some reviews. I'm telling myself even if I spend more than I wanted, I'm sure I'll just win that back during poker night.

To me it is an investment... and I hate to say this because I don't llike to mess with someones budget... BUT if you LOVE to play and you play regular. My mind says get a set that you can hand down to your kids. A good set of chips last in a casino for 3 to 5 years, and that is played with 24 hours a day 7 days a week... so a few lifetimes of home play.

BUT there is also something to be said for a cheap set, easy to get, cheap, and they still work the same.

In the end it all comes down to how much you want to spend... do you hate me yet?
