Default God of Fire 2006 Don Carlos robusto

These God of Fire cigars are made by Fuente for Prometheus and are supposed to be top shelve cigars with a price that supports that idea. The MRSP for this 2006 robusto by Don Carlos in a stunningly beautiful tube is $22. On the inner tube there is a text explaining the name "Prometheus stole fire from Zeus, the king of the Olympic gods, to bring it to mankind. Enraged Zeus ordered Prometheus to be bound to a desolate rock and attacked by an eagle. Prometheus was punished for his love of mortals. Prometheus is a courageous hero for mankind and is known as God of Fire" and it continues with "very special and rare vintage cigars blended by the two living legends of cigars, Carlos Fuente sr and Carlito Fuente". I got this cigar in a 'make a wish' on Cigar Asylum from Mariogolbee.

The looks of this cigar are off the board. The tube is beautiful and different from any other tube I have seen. There is no cap at the bottom of the tube, but they are actually two tubes, a smaller inner tube with an opening at the top, and an outer tube with an opening at the bottom, so you slide them together to make the tube and protect the 5¼x50 double banded robusto. The wrapper is dark, oily and shiny and has lots of small veins. The cigar has a mild smell of herbs and straw. The construction feels good although the predraw is a bit loose.

I taste a pleasant coffee flavor, quite spicy, with some wood. The flavors are complex and balanced. After half an inch I taste herbs instead of coffee. There isn't much development in flavors for a while, but what I taste is very good, balanced and complex. I don't mind the lack of development because I like what I taste.

Halfway the cigar gets even more flavorful, still a complex and well balanced herbal flavor with wood. After two thirds I get a bit more wood with the herbs and some pepper. The pepper is getting stronger until it is time to say goodbye to this wonderful cigar.

This robusto had a smoke time of an hour and twenty minutes. The draw was good and so was the burn. I got a decent amount of thick smoke in the beginning and it got more and more, how longer I smoked. The ash is light colored and firm. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? If I can find them for a reasonable price, yes I will.

Appearance: 9 / 10
Construction: 7 / 10
Draw: 7 / 10
Burn: 7 / 10
Smoke & ash: 8 / 10
Aroma first part: 8 / 10
Aroma second part: 8 / 10
Aroma third part: 8 / 10

Nice review, I had that same GoF and it got me to buy 4 more of them. They are pricey but they are damn good cigars.

Very nice review.
I enjoy this cigar alot. It is proof that a cigar does not have to be overpowering to be good. Complexity trumps power by my book.

Thanks for the review I've been wondering how the GoF was. I managed to pick 3 of these off CBid for a good price. I think I'll let them sit in the humi for a while before I break one out.
