In four weeks time I go back onship and the rumour has it that there will no longer be internet for the crew, head office says too costly...........so I may not be around while I'm working.

I know exactly how that can be, good news is it gives you time to disconnect from the grid having 28/7 internet is not always a good thing. Fair winds

Remedy:

Get lost as sea for several weeks.
When they find you, say you used to use Google maps to find your way around.
