Default Re: Building a humidor

Yah, I am thinking of building a couple of these things as well. Not as big though. Any idea what woods can be used?

I know spanish cedar, but just like the sentiment in Winnipeg....its pretty impossible to get it here. Is mahogany OK? How about oak?

What are the consequences of using different woods? Would an oak humidor start smelling like s**t at some point? Would my cigars start becoming unpleasant? I assume cedar is used because of how well it handles humidity without rotting. Any other woods (or cedars) that would work with humidity? How about western cedars, or will my humi/cigars get ruined?

Lots of question, fairly little clue...

Thanks all

Cheers
