I will be trying The Arran tonight. Will let you all know how it is. I had heard it was good and decently priced, so who knows.

Indeed. Please understand, I was speaking only of my own preferences. I've studied every region and it just so happens that the Speysider I will reach for, given reasonable selection, is a rarefied beast. That said, the ones I like, I very like.

As with cigars, I say 'dig what you dig' and don't let anyone call you wrong.

How about your thoughts on the Arran?

It is quite good for a 40$ bottle. On the initial sip, you get fruits such as grapes and pears with caramel and then on the aftertaste you get vanilla, cream and a burst of cake icing. Quite enjoyable if you ask me.

I'd be very surprised if you did not really enjoy the Glenfarclas 17yo.
I am still a scotch noob, but after all the stuff I have tasted, I always come back to this stuff. Freakin fantastic. I really love Oban as well, but is was a good bit more expensive.

On Friday I'll have a Whisky tasting with a few other guys...

The following is on the schedule (and they all really rock):
  • Bunnahabhain 1976, 31 yo, Murray McDavid
  • Inchgower 1974, 34 yo, Scotch Single Malt Circle
  • Caperdonich 1972, 37 yo., Duncan Taylor Rare Auld
  • Glenfarclas 1971, 35 yo, Whiskyfair
My personal favorite is the last one.... fantastic to be combined with some ginger bread.

Sounds like a great time Heiko.

I love Glenfarclas 25 year. I'm sure the 35 year was off the chain!

I still have to open the 17. I heard nothing but good things about it. I remember reading you liked Oban somewhere. I see lots of people have mixed feelings about it. Can you convince me its worthy of a place in my stock?

Macallan 12 Sherry Oak is a favorite of mine. I would love to try some older bottles from Macallan.

Anyone here try the Glengoyne 17 and the Glenlivet Nadurra? If so, thoughts?

A few Nadurras... I've only had the Triumph variety per a recommendation from a bartender friend of mine at Craftsteak, and I really enjoyed it. Keep in mind I'm a fan of the Speyside singles like Macallan and Aberlour, some of the others regions are a bit too "medicinally peat-y" for my delicate palate .

I enjoy a variety of single malts. Have not tried so many, but those that I have I have liked. I tend to prefer islay scotches, but it is always good to get a change with a speyside here and there.

The Whisky tasting weīd yesterday evening was really awesome...

Got another bottle which I tried this morning: Ardbeg 1975 (bottled 1997) by Spirit of Scotland... that stuff really rocked the house...

Heiko, are the older Macallan offerings worth the buck? 18-30 year olds?

Speakin of the older Sherry finished Macallans itīs more a "yes" for me than for the "Fine Oak" stuff.

But itīs definetly a fact that Macallan is price-wise Rolls Royce... so, had to say, if itīs really worth the buck... Maybe you should try to find older bottling from Independent bottlers.

Thanks for the advice. Are there online retailers that sell Independent bottlers stuff? I've seen them being auctioned online before, but not really on any retailers site.
