Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Whoa....didn't see that coming. I thought 'ole Roger was doomed for sure. Dumb-a$$ prosecuters insisted on trying to admit evidence that the judge had already declared inadmissible and he rules a mistrial after only two days into the trial.
Goes back to court 2 Sep 11 to see if a new trial will occur. Roger dodged a HUGE rocket today!! But he still isn't getting into the Hall.

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Its unfortunate that such a stupid mistake could be made by a lawyer. There was a quote to the effect of: "Even a rookie lawyer straight out of law school wouldn't be that stupid." Well it looks like the prosecution was.
At the end of the day, Roger misses the HOF which is justice enough for me. He acted like a dick and most likely lied before congress like many others (Bonds, Palmeiro et. al.) but then again, congress should have never been involved in baseball. Bud Selig should have handled the 'steroid era' himself, but then again it saved baseball. I digress.

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
What is interesting to me is that the charges are based off a testimony he gave willingly in front of congress. He didn't have to give it! Now there's a good chance he will never get charged based on double jeopardy.

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Double Jeopardy doesn't apply because a verdict was not rendered. However, how in the world does an experienced federal prosecutor make a "mistake" like that? It would seem to me that the "fix" was in.

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Agreed. This screw-up is too ridiculous. The worst part is the loss of taxpayer funds already tied up in this trial. How much did this debacle just cost us???

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Prosecutor should lose his job for incompetence.
Though I think R.C. is a douche in the first degree and I'd like to see him convicted, one side of me says let it die.... On the flip side, when you break the law, you should face the consequences of that....especially if you "appear" to break it in such an overt and public way. We are not talking about speeding on a desolate road, but being accused of lying to congress. So my opinion is still split on this. Did I mention that I think R.C. is a douche bag? |

I'd rather see Rose in the HOF then Clemens.

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
I would love to see him heavily fined or getting his butt sent to jail but that is a double standard. He is getting nailed for lying to Congress. What do they do to us on a daily basis?

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Do I think Clemens is guilty, not only of using PEDs but of lying to Congress? Yes. Do I think either of these allegations has yet been proven? No. Do I think Pete Rose did something that Roger Clemens never did . . . violate a written rule of MLB, and in his case one which has become the one inviolate cardinal rule since the Black Sox scandel over a century ago? Yes. Do I think Rose lied about that in his repeated denials against all evidence to the contrary? Yes. I am no Clemens fan, and if he's denied the Hall Of Fame due to these allegations, be they ever proven or not, then so be it. But I shall never . . . NEVER! . . . understand why Pete Rose supporters are so willing to overlook both his "crime" and his overweening, all-encompassing @$$holeness. Ty Cobb was a bigger jerk than Pete Rose, but not by much. That's my , and worth every penny. |

Re: Clemens Dodges A Rocket!!
Yes, he certainly is. And I won't deny that both he and Rose have the stats to justify inclusion. But so does Clemens. So hold whatever opinion you choose on the "morality clause" when it comes to HoF election. All I ask is that one be consistent. Do not lobby to exclude Clemens and push for Rose to be inducted, in nearly the same breath.
It is illogical, Captain. |
